The Azerbaijani Language Forum dedicated to International Mother Language Day was held at the Modern Educational Complex named in Honour of Heydar Aliyev. The forum aimed to highlight the role of our mother tongue in shaping national identity and to emphasize the importance of preserving it.
As part of the forum’s opening, a thematic exhibition was organized where students portrayed prominent historical and literary figures. They delivered speeches about these personalities’ efforts in protecting and promoting the Azerbaijani language.
The event brought together guests representing various fields. Among the speakers were Professor Sevinc Aliyeva, Head of the Monitoring and Linguistic Analysis Department at the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi of ANAS; Professor Tarana Hajiyeva, Head of the Azerbaijani Language and Pedagogy Department at Baku Engineering University; Professor Chingiz Abdullayev; young poet Ramiz Gusarçay; MTK graduate parent Rustam Mammadov; Mr. Ceyhun Salman, Deputy Chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan; and Professor Naghdali Zamanov.
The panel discussion held within the forum attracted particular interest. The speakers addressed the preservation of our mother tongue in the era of globalization, social media, and artificial intelligence. They discussed the increasing use of foreign words in daily communication, the transformation of writing culture on digital platforms, and language habits among young people.
At the end of the event, the winners of the “If I Have My Language, I Exist” essay competition, organized within the framework of the forum, were awarded. The forum became an important opportunity to reflect once again on our attitude toward our mother tongue.
